Agfa Materials commits to continue the supply of film

Recent developments in technology and changes in the world-wide economic climate generated some uncertainty with respect to the long term guarantee of film supplies. It is a fact that film consumption globally is declining. As a result some film suppliers got into difficulties, others have had to reorganize their assortment.

Agfa Materials produce film in their facilities in Belgium. The production of silver emulsions, PET base material and the coating are fully automated. As a result the impact of labour cost is well controlled. Also the confection of film is automated to great extent. Part of the confection is done in our Chinese facilities. Also in confection the labor costs are under control.

All of the silver emulsions used in our PCB films are based on a handful of basic emulsions. Only in a very late phase of the production process an emulsion becomes application specific. This allows us to produce limited batches at acceptable cost. Agfa Materials production facilities were built to allow fast and easy change from one type of film to another. As a result Agfa Materials can produce film at an acceptable cost even though when the volumes are small.

The only cost Agfa can not control is the price of the raw materials, especially silver. There for Agfa Materials introduce four years ago a silver surcharge clause. Most of the film users recycle the silver and thus are lesser sensitive to silver price increases.

All this allows Agfa Materials to enforce its commitment. Agfa Materials will continue the production and the support of its films. Agfa Materials expects that during the next five years none of its photo tooling or encoder film volume will decline to a non-profitable level.

We can guarantee the supplies.

For your information: according our in-house ISO rules we inform the user of a certain film on the discontinuation of that film at least 12 months in advance. The film itself has a shelf life of 36 months.

Agfa Materials is committed to remain your long term partner for imaging.
