ASS Luippold and SAA (Symtek Automation Asia), Taiwan supply automation for the new innerlayer factory of Unimicron Germany.

25 January 2018

In the night of December 28th 2016 the complete innerlayer factory of Unimicron Germany in Geldern burnt down. Less than one year later, after tremendous efforts by Unimicron Germany the first machines were moved into the new innerlayer-factory – included are the Automation and Handling systems, all provided by ASS Luippold and SAA.

For years ASS Luippold is convincing Unimicron in Geldern with its excellent technologies, high quality and reliable service support. Therefore the recent merging of both companies’ product portfolios into ASS-SAA Automation GmbH happened at just the right moment.

During visits of all SAA factories in Taiwan Unimicron got a clear overview of the convincing capability and quality of this company which  became within the last 20 years the largest Automation and Handling supplier for the PCB industry. With over 700 employees the company can offer around 1,000 machines per year just for this industry.

Together with the Unimicron project team and a German speaking project management in Germany as well as in Taiwan the most modern innerlayer factory was designed within just a few months.

With a 100% single panel tracking by DMC (Data Matrix Code) and cassette barcode tracking it is assured that all future requirements of PCB customers are fulfilled.

Besides the supply of fully automatic load- and unload systems and smart FIFO buffer systems for a reliable 24h-operation, new concepts for DI-, AOI- and edge treatment automation were designed by ASS Luippold and SAA in close cooperation with Unimicron.

New ground was broken with the decision to adapt automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and work in process (WIP) storage technologies. The processed PCBs on its cassettes are hereby automatically transferred into storage areas via the AGVs. By a smart software solution the cassettes are tracked and again automatically guided to the next process via AGVs or manual trolleys. The storage and provision of empty cassettes is integrated as well.

First equipment of this project was already presented to an excited audience during the Productronica exhibition in Munich. Mr. Rico Schlüter, CTO of Unimicron Germany, was very satisfied to see his equipment performing its first “trial run”.
