An impressive Show ends today in Nuremberg

12 May 2016

From May 10-12, 2016 two exhibitions ran side by side in Nuremberg, Germany, the power electronics show PCIM and the sensor show Sensor+Test. The EIPC visited the shows on Wednesday and was impressed by the huge number of visitors, which seemed to surpass the SMT two weeks ago. At least regarding PCB manufacturers exhibiting, the PCIM and Sensor+Test had a higher attendance than SMT. Schweizer Electronic, AT&S, Würth Elektronik, Hofmann Leiterplatten, Spirit Circuits, and LFG-Eckhard Oertel most concentrating on boards with heavy copper. New on the show was ProNova GmbH, a German company, which manufactures metal contacts in press in technology for high current applications on PCB. Different to its main competitor Würth Elektronik, ProNova manufactures contacts which are round and form a gastight connection with the plated Thru hole of the PCB. This connection can hold up to 600A (www.pronova-leistungselektronik.de).

Many Hybrid manufacturers (including Thin film manufacturers for Sensors) which we already welcomed at the SMT where at the Sensor+Test again, such as Lust Hybrid-Technik, Via electronic, Koa Europe, MSE, First Sensor, Micro-Hybrid Electronic, Selmic, and in addition HE System Electronic, Turck Duotec, Vincotech, Kyocera, TT Electronics, Thales, Metallux, Siegert TFT, Danfoss, IST, Microdul and Jumo.

For sure, Hybrid manufacturers outran PCB manufacturers. Interestingly, power electronics seems to become a big focus of many companies, including material manufacturers. An international basket of companies offering DCB (Direct Copper Bonding) substrates in different manufacturing technologies presented their products, CeramTec Germany, KCC Korea, Stellar Industries USA, Ferrotec Japan just to name a few. Heraeus joined this basket in 2016 and introduced themselves as DCB substrate manufacturer on the PCIM show.

The show was worthwhile visiting.
